Available from $25 to $1000, gift certificates are great for those who are planning on climbing a mountain around the world and are so darn tough to shop for. They are issued as an e-Gift card and can be sent directly to the recipient via email.

We are happy to price match for you as long as you find the identical product (size, color, season, style) on another site and both the competitor and we have the product in stock at the time of the order.  We also need the website link to locate the product on the competitor’s site to confirm that it is the same product.  We are unable to discount the product below 40% of its retail price and our policy does not allow for prices listed on auction sites such as eBay.  The price match cannot be combined with another current promotion.  Finally, the competitor must be located in the United States.

Whittaker Mountaineering does not allow purchase of our goods for unauthorized resale. We reserve the right to deny service to any individual or party that we deem necessary. If we find that your order violates our standards of conduct in any way, or believe that you are purchasing product in order to resell it without the vendor's permission, your order will be canceled and the purchase amount refunded. 

Clearance Items, Food, gift cards, undergarments or load-bearing climbing equipment (including products such as ropes, harnesses and carabiners) are not eligible for return.  

For all eligible items, we will gladly accept the return of new items (all tags included, unused, original packaging, unwashed, boot liners un-molded) within 30 days of the original shipment date of product for a full refund.  

If you are exchanging an item, we recommend that you place a new order with the size/product that you hope to exchange for as soon as possible while it is available in our inventory.

We offer two options for processing product returns. 

Option 1:

We can issue you a prepaid return shipping label directly to your email to use to ship the item back to our store location. Once we receive the item, we will deduct the shipping label cost from your total return.

Option 2:

You may ship the item back to us at 30027 SR 706 E, Ashford WA, 98304 at your own expense for a full refund once the item has been expected and is found in proper working condition. Often times for smaller and lightweight packages, this is the most cost effective route. 

Returns and exchanges outside of the contiguous US are subject to higher shipping costs. We will process the return within a couple days of receiving the package. Please allow approximately 5-10 business days for funds to appear back on your account.

Whittaker Mountaineering has a 24 hour cancellation policy. Items that are no longer needed or wanted for your trip must be cancelled 24 hours prior to your reservation start date (Unless climbing with RMI Expeditions) in order to receive a refund for your rental purchase.  Any pickup orders placed within 24 hours of the reservation start date are non-refundable. For any changes that may occur, you can contact the Rental Office via e-mail at rentals@whittakermountaineering.com or by phone at (360) 569-2142 or 1-800-238-5756 at least 24 hours to you reservation start date. 

Reservations can only be made for a maximum of 31 days.

All used items are sold AS IS and are not eligible for returns or exchanges. If you receive an item and believe it has been mis-categorized by tier, you have one week to email us. All orders are shipped via UPS or USPS, unless otherwise directed by the customer. Alaska, Canada and all other international shipments are shipped using the United States Postal Service.

If the shipping cost is more than $25 above the rates reflected here, we will contact you prior to processing your order and will charge you the difference.

If you would like to place an order with us but need your items to arrive within a certain time/by a certain date, please give us a call! 

Purchases shipped out of Washington state will not be charged sales tax on items. 

Depending on the freezing level during your Rainier climb, you may be required to rent double boots instead of single layer climbing boots. These double boots are made up of an insulating inner boot and a water proof exterior boot. It is up to your lead RMI guide to decide whether your climb will require single or double boots, and they will let you know during orientation.

For International or Denali trips, your rental gear will be shipped from our office 3-4 weeks prior to the orientation date provided.  All reservations need to be made at least 45 days in advance of the trip start date.  This allows enough time for you to familiarize yourself with the gear and to make sure everything fits properly.  For any changes that may occur, you can contact the Rental Office via e-mail at rentals@whittakermountaineering.com or by phone at (360) 569-2142 or 1-800-238-5756.  International/Denali orders that have been shipped from our store, are no longer eligible for a refund. 

PLEASE NOTE: International Rental Reservations will be charged the full shipping cost to get the gear to your location. YOU are responsible for shipping fees TO and FROM your location. These fees are calculated once we can review your order and estimate how much shipping the items to your location will cost.

International Rental gear cannot be shipped outside of the continental United States.  Reservations can only be made for a maximum of 31 days.

Mount Rainier National Park is introducing a pilot timed entry system in 2024 due to a significant increase in visitors, which has led to congestion and environmental strain. Here's a summary of the key details for the new system:

Timed Entry Details:

• Timed Entry Requirement: Required at two main corridors of the park: Paradise (from Ashford or Packwood) and Sunrise (from Enumclaw). These reservations are needed from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm daily.
• Periods of Requirement:
  • Paradise Corridor: May 24 to September 2
  • Sunrise Corridor: July 4 to September 2
• Entry Modes: Visitors need a timed entry reservation or a service reservation (like lodging or camping), along with a valid park entrance fee or pass.

Additional Information:

• Reservation Availability: Reservations can be made on Recreation.gov. Some are available 90 days in advance, with others available the day before at 7:00 pm PT.
• Exceptions:
  • Visitors with specific reservations (e.g., National Park Inn, Paradise Inn, Cougar Rock Campground) or permits (e.g., Wilderness, Special Use) can use their booking as an entry pass during specified times.
• Fees: Entrance fees cannot be purchased online during the timed entry period and must be bought in person.

General Park Access:

• The park remains open 24/7. Timed entry restrictions apply only between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. Outside these hours, no reservation is required for entry.

This system aims to manage the park’s growing visitor numbers more effectively, enhance visitor experience, and protect the park's natural resources.

Mount Rainier National Park has specific requirements regarding tire chains for all vehicles during the winter season. Here’s a concise summary of these requirements:

Tire Chain Requirement:

• When: From November 1 to May 1 annually.
• Who: All vehicles entering the park, including those with four-wheel and all-wheel drive.
• Conditions: Mandatory regardless of weather conditions or vehicle type.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• Why Chains?: The unpredictable weather and potential for sudden storms make it essential for all vehicles to be prepared with tire chains to ensure safety and keep roads open.
• Exceptions: None. Even if the vehicle manual advises against chains, alternatives like cable chains are recommended for vehicles with limited tire clearance.
• Rental Cars: Chains are required on rental vehicles. Some stores may accept returns of unused chains.
• Four-Wheel and All-Wheel Drive: These vehicles still require chains. While these vehicles offer better traction, chains are necessary for the most extreme conditions.
• Legal Differences: Unlike general Washington State law, Mount Rainier has more stringent requirements due to its higher elevation and the nature of its roads.
• Alternatives to Chains: Cable chains and Autosocks are permitted alternatives for passenger vehicles under 10,000 pounds. Autosocks are recognized when "Chains Required" signs are posted.
• Purchasing Chains: Chains can be bought or rented here at Whittaker Mountaineering.

Mount Rainier National Park visitors should be aware of the varying cell phone service availability and locations of free WiFi hotspots in the surrounding areas, along with specific details about connectivity in the Paradise area. Here’s an updated guide:

Cell Phone Coverage by Carrier:

• AT&T: Coverage available in Crystal Mountain, Eatonville, Enumclaw, Morton, Packwood, and Paradise. Limited coverage in Ashford, Greenwater, Longmire, and Sunrise.
• Sprint: Good coverage in Eatonville, Enumclaw, Morton, and Paradise. Limited elsewhere.
• T-Mobile: Consistent service in Eatonville, Enumclaw, Morton, and Paradise, including limited but dedicated service in the Paradise area of the park.
• US Cellular: Available in Eatonville, Morton, and Paradise with limited service in all other locations.
• Verizon: Broad coverage in Crystal Mountain, Eatonville, Enumclaw, Morton, Packwood, and Paradise, including specific service in Paradise at Mount Rainier.

Specific Service in Paradise:

• Location: Service is provided from equipment located in the attic of the Jackson Memorial Visitor Center.
• Features: The setup ensures that there are no cell towers or other visible equipment constructed, preserving the natural aesthetics of the park.
• Availability: Provides year-round cellular service, both voice and data, for employees and visitors within a limited range of the visitor center.

   • Note: Located outside the timed entry corridors; reservations here do not substitute for timed entry to Paradise or Sunrise Corridors.

Camping Fees:

• Individual Site Fee: $20 at Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh; no fee at Mowich Lake (13 primitive tent pads).
• Group Site Fee: $60 at Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh; none at White River and Mowich Lake.

General Information:

• Fire Regulation: Only within provided grating; purchase local firewood to prevent spread of invasive species.
• Pet Policy: Must be restrained; not allowed on trails or in buildings.
• Quiet Hours: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.; generator use restricted to specific hours.

Facilities and Services:

• Water: Available at Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh; no potable water at Mowich Lake.
• Toilets: Flush toilets at Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, and White River; vault toilet at Mowich Lake.

Backcountry camping at Mount Rainier National Park requires a wilderness permit for all overnight stays, available year-round. Here's a concise overview:

Permit Requirements:

• Day Hiking: No permit required.
• Overnight Camping: A wilderness permit is mandatory.

Group Size Regulations:

• Summer:
  • Individual Sites: Maximum of 5 people.
  • Group Sites: 6 to 12 people, permitted at 25 designated camps and on snow in alpine zones.
• Winter:
  • All areas: Up to 12 people.
  • Larger groups (over 12) can reserve winter camping at Paradise.

For those looking to camp near Mount Rainier National Park, there are several options both for paid and dispersed camping.

Paid Camping

1. Wilderness Path Campground: Located in Ashford, WA, this campground offers five sites suitable for RVs and tents. It features a historical railroad theme with various amenities such as toilets and campfires. Rates start at $42/night.

2. Rainier Hideaway: Also in Ashford, this site is a mile from the park entrance and has seven sites for RVs and tents. It's close to restaurants and a grocery store, with amenities like potable water and campfires. Rates start at $45/night.

3. Rainier's Roadside RV: This campground offers two RV sites in Ashford, very close to the Nisqually entrance of the park. It includes a pavilion and central fire pit area. Rates start at $35/night.

4. The Village at Rainier: Provides a glamping experience in Ashford with private cabins and RV pads that include utilities like water and electric. Amenities also include showers. Rates start at $99/night.

5. The Hideout: Features three sites for lodging and RVs in Ashford, offering basic amenities and a communal fire pit area. Rates start at $45/night.

Dispersed Camping

1. Mt Rainier National Forest Road: This free campsite is available in Ashford, Washington, and is suitable for RV parking and tent camping. It includes pet-friendly areas and activities such as hiking and wildlife viewing. Note that it is closed during winter.

2. Sahara Creek Horse Camp: Located on 262nd Avenue East in Ashford, this camp requires a pass or permit. It offers restrooms and horse trails, catering specifically to equestrian campers.
