Master the Systems That Keep You Safe
Crevasse Rescue School is RMI’s most focused technical training program — a two-day deep dive into the essential tools and techniques of glacier travel, self-rescue, and team response. This collection features the ropes, hardware, and equipment climbers use to build anchors, haul systems, and ascend safely from crevasses.

Train with RMI Guides
RMI’s Crevasse Rescue School gives climbers hands-on experience with the systems that make glacier travel possible. Over two full days on Mount Rainier, you’ll practice self-arrest, rope ascension, anchor construction, and team rescue under the guidance of professional mountaineers.

Crevasse Rescue School FAQ
Crevasse rescue gear can look intimidating at first, but it’s all about systems — simple tools working together to keep your team safe. Here are some common questions about what to bring and how to prepare for your course.
Do I need to bring my own rope or rescue gear?
RMI supplies all ropes and group gear for the course. You’ll need your own personal hardware — locking carabiners, cordelettes, prusik cords, and pulleys — since each climber must build and manage their own system during training.
What’s the main skill this course focuses on?
The goal is simple: learn to execute a complete rope rescue from start to finish. You’ll practice building snow anchors, transferring loads, and hauling a fallen climber using a real crevasse scenario — with an emphasis on self-sufficiency and precision.
What personal gear do I need?
Bring the same mountaineering clothing and footwear you’d wear on a climb — waterproof layers, gloves, helmet, harness, and crampons. This ensures realistic training and helps you dial in your setup for future glacier climbs.
