Questions about E-Bikes?
We've got answers!
What kind of E-Bike am I renting?
These are Class 1 pedal-assist bikes, meaning there's no throttle—you need to pedal for the motor to kick in. They’re ideal for paved roads, gravel, and forest service roads around Ashford and Mount Rainier. Not intended for aggressive trail riding.
Key specs:
- 500W motor / 400Wh battery
- Pedal-assist up to ~20mph
- 5 assist levels + Adaptive Smart Mode
- Expected range: 15–45+ miles (depending on terrain, assist level, rider weight, and more)
- 29” wheels and 100mm front suspension
- Helmets and locks included (helmets required)
Can I ride these in Mount Rainier National Park?
Yes! Mount Rainier National Park allows Class 1 E-Bikes anywhere traditional bikes are permitted. Because our rentals are pedal-assist only (no throttle) and capped at 20mph, they meet the park’s requirements for E-Bike access.
That means you can explore places like Westside Road and other park-approved bike routes—just follow all posted signs and trail etiquette.

- Hourly: $25
- Half Day (4 hours): $50
- Full Day (8 hours): $80
- 2-Day Rental: $150
Helmet and lock included with every rental. Helmet use is required by Whittaker policy.
Any tips to make the most of my ride?
Yes, and they make a big difference for your range, safety, and overall experience.
Battery and range tips:
- Use Adaptive Smart Mode for the most efficient power delivery
- Maintain a steady pedaling cadence around 60–80 RPM
- Shift gears as needed—don’t just rely on assist
- Lower assist levels when descending to save battery
Braking and shifting:
- Brake in pulses, not continuously, to avoid overheating
- Use the rear brake first, then ease onto the front
- Don’t shift under full load—ease off the pedals slightly when shifting
Trail etiquette:
- Use your bell when passing others
- Park on level ground and lock the bike to something solid
- Avoid leaning the bike on brake rotors (especially when using roadside racks)
How does Pickup and Drop-off work?
E-Bike pickup and return must happen during our normal store hours.
- Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your reservation to get properly outfitted
- We offer delivery and drop-off for an additional fee
- Do not leave bikes outside the shop after hours—you may be charged a return fee at the discretion of our staff
