How Does It Work?
It's no secret that cost is a huge barrier to outdoor adventure, and gear costs are a big part of that. Whether you need technical gear for mountaineering or just a rain shell for your hike, you may not want to pull the trigger on buying such pricey items.
That's where our rental program comes in! We've got great rates on everything you need to experience Rainier National Park... check them out below!
Reserve your gear online by heading over to our Rental Website.
Select your rental dates in the upper right-hand corner. Select your gear and apparel and add them to your cart.
If you're picking up your rentals in Ashford, we'll have them ready for you the evening before or the morning of your reservation.
If we're shipping your rentals to you, you'll receive them at least 10 days before your climb to ensure everything fits.
Drop off your gear (or ship it back to us) after your adventure and don't worry about cleaning it! Plus, if we're not open, you can use the Gear Drop slot located in our Rental building.

How does Local Pickup Work?
Whittaker Mountaineering has a 24 hour cancellation policy. Items that are no longer needed or wanted for your trip must be cancelled 24 hours prior to your reservation start date (Unless climbing with RMI Expeditions) in order to receive a refund for your rental purchase. Any pickup orders placed within 24 hours of the reservation start date are non-refundable. For any changes that may occur, you can contact the Rental Office via e-mail at rentals@whittakermountaineering.com or by phone at (360) 569-2142 or 1-800-238-5756 at least 24 hours to you reservation start date. Reservations can only be made for a maximum of 31 days.
PLEASE NOTE*
Once reservations are picked up and taken off of company property, the rental reservation becomes non-refundable.
How does Shipping work?
For International or Denali trips, your rental gear will be shipped from our office 3-4 weeks prior to the orientation date provided. All reservations need to be made at least 45 days in advance of the trip start date. This allows enough time for you to familiarize yourself with the gear and to make sure everything fits properly. For any changes that may occur, you can contact the Rental Office via e-mail at rentals@whittakermountaineering.com or by phone at (360) 569-2142 or 1-800-238-5756. International/Denali orders that have been shipped from our store, are no longer eligible for a refund.
PLEASE NOTE: International Rental Reservations will be charged the full shipping cost to get the gear to your location. YOU are responsible for shipping fees TO and FROM your location. These fees are calculated once we can review your order and estimate how much shipping the items to your location will cost.
International Rental gear cannot be shipped outside of the continental United States. Reservations can only be made for a maximum of 31 days.
Can anyone rent gear?
Short answer - yes! Although our mountaineering gear lists are tailored for RMI Expeditions clients, anyone can rent gear and apparel from us.
Whether you're going for a casual hike, climbing Rainier independently, biking through Ashford, or need gear for your own international expedition, we're happy to help!
