Finding Your Size

Your correct frame size is found by measuring your torso from the seventh vertebra (the big bump where the shoulder slope meets the neck) down the spine to the point in the small of your back which is horizontally level with the top of your hip bones (iliac crest).

To find the iliac crest, use your fingers to trace the hip bone upwards until you can feel the point where the top edge of your hip bones curve inwards, on the side of your hip, creating something of a shelf. Holding your finger on the seventh vertebra, measure down your back to the point in the small of your back level with your iliac crest.

The measurement is most easily obtained using a string or a cloth tape and help from a friend. This is your torso length, and using it, you can now select the correct frame size.

A solid pack

I used this just on one overnight trip so far, but it seems like a really good pack. The harness fits quite nice, without too much weight on the shoulders even when fully loaded. The hip belt and shoulder straps have slightly more padding than many other packs, which is great. I like the snack pocket on the right side of the hip belt. Who needs a gear loop on both sides? The single buckle for the lid is new to me, but seems to work fine. I prefer two buckles. My main issue with the pack is the size of the lid. It is a little on the small side. With all of my little things like sunglasses, sunscreen, etc, it is pretty well packed. I would rate it higher with a more beefy lid, like on the BD Mission 55. I do like the overall color and look of this pack, which is SO important for great photographs. Just kidding, but you do have to live with it. I'm sure this will work well for me for years to come. It's way better than the 2013 Osprey Variant that I replaced.

Hey Zak, glad you like the pack! Hopefully it serves you well for many adventures to come. Thanks for the review!
